5 Day Reading Plan

Use this daily bible study to explore biblical principles.

  • Day 1: Change the Way You Read

    Reading: Psalm 119:24; Romans 12:2

Big Idea: The Bible is meant to reshape how you think, not just inform what you know.

    Look For:

    • How Scripture functions (counsel, transformation)

    • The connection between thinking and discerning

    Discover the Principle:

God renews your mind so you can recognize His will.

    Ask:

    • What does this teach me about how God guides people?

    • What kind of person can actually discern God’s will?

Practice: Write one principle starting with: “God’s wisdom is recognized when…”

  • Day 2: Find Stated Principles

    Reading: Galatians 6:7–9; Proverbs 13:20

Big Idea: Some principles are directly stated; don’t miss the obvious.

    Look For:

    • Cause-and-effect statements

    • Repeated patterns of outcomes

    Discover the Principles:

    • You reap what you sow

    • Your relationships shape your future

    Ask:

    • What behavior leads to what outcome?

    • Where have I seen this play out in real life?

    Practice:

Write 2 principles using this format: “If I ______, then ______.”

  • Day 3: Find Implied Principles

Reading: Luke 15:11–24 (The Prodigal Son)

Big Idea: Some of the most powerful truths are not stated—they’re revealed.

    Look For:

    • Repeated themes in the story

    • What changes the outcome

    Discover the Principle:

Love and grace have the power to restore what rebellion destroys.

    Ask:

    • What does this story show about how people change?

    • What actually brings the son home: consequences or love?

Practice: Write one principle starting with: “This story shows that…”

  • Day 4: Find Illustrated Principles

Reading: 1 Samuel 24:1–7 (David spares Saul)

Big Idea: Principles are often revealed through real decisions under pressure.

    Look For:

    • Tension (what seems right vs. what is wise)

    • What guides the decision

Discover the Principle: You don’t violate God’s ways to achieve God’s will.

    Ask:

    • What voices were telling David to act?

    • What principle overruled his opportunity?

Practice: Write one principle starting with: “Even when _______, I will _______ because _______.”

  • Day 5: Apply Principles to Your Life

    Reading: Matthew 6:19–21, 33; Hebrews 5:14

Big Idea: Principles are meant to guide real decisions.

    Look For:

    • What Jesus says leads to a certain kind of life

    • How practice leads to discernment

    Discover the Principles:

    • Your priorities shape your heart

    • Discernment grows with use

    Ask:

    • What decision am I currently facing?

    • Which principle from this week applies to it?

    Practice:

    • Write one decision you need to make

    • Write the principle that applies

    • Decide your next step based on that principle

    Simple Daily Prayer

“God, show me how life really works. Teach me Your ways, not just Your words.”
